Dressing Like Don Draper Mad Men is airing tonight with the show’s season finale and though the show ends in the 70’s it’s the 50’s Don Draper look that took style trends by storm bringing back retro looks that are still popular on the runways today. I’ve written several articles on the style of Mad Men and it still is having an impact in the fashion world. Who doesn’t love a sharp dressed man? As a vintage fashion show producer, I’m grateful for the return of this style.  Since I have the opportunity to talk to vintage dealers, and collectors alike, this look is easy to recreate and still looks classic and modern today. These vintage styles... Continue reading

Hollywood Revival

November 10, 2014
By

There’s no business like show business and Old Hollywood is an influential piece of golden age history that has significantly shaped and defined what we consider to be glamorous to this day on the red carpet. This is the same glamour we still pay homage to and emulate in fashion. Old Hollywood is the dream factory and continues to be a representation of a more romantic, nostalgic era that has passed down some of the most iconic looks to date. The spirit of Hollywood from the 1920’s to the 1960’s affected the masses and influenced the fashion industry and tastes of the audiences in such a way that movie stars, films, costume designers and... Vanity Faire

February 6, 2014

Films of the Hollywood “golden era” are often filled with images of a glamorous starlet primping for an evening out on the town, in front of a stunning & dreamy vanity table. These tables went out of fashion in recent decades, but are now making a big comeback. Sure, you don’t actually need one — not in the way you need a bed, a couch, or a closet full of vintage shoes. But a vanity table suggests intimacy, romance, and vintage style. If you pick the right one, it adds an element of glamour to any room. While roaming the antiques faire, I often talk to our sellers who have the talents of painting, refinishing, and selling old furniture.  The... Continue reading

The crowds flocked in to shop for glamorous vintage, jewelry, men’s suits and more. They bought VFF fashion tote bags and filled them with quality vintage clothing from every decade. Hollyce Jeffries made the spooky Halloween decorations and set the vibe with owls, cats, witches and a giant skeleton named... Continue reading

How to walk down the wedding aisle in vintage style

July 9, 2013

It’s wedding season and many of my vintage loving customers have inquired about what to do when planning a vintage themed wedding. This was so popular in our printed version of "The Point" magazine, I am sharing it on my blog. I’m also a romantic so without further ado, I share some tips for evoking the timeless style of a bygone era on your wedding day. One of the most popular themes for weddings at the moment is vintage. Any era you want to choose from the 20s to the 60s you can find plentiful resources to tie in with your chosen wedding theme. Let’s explore a couple of my favorite eras: vintage wedding photo ca. 1920's 1930’s Style... Continue reading

Tik-Tok Tiki Time

March 2, 2013
By

Aloha Vintage Lovers! Have the winter blues got you down? It’s time for a tropical vacation. You don’t have to go too far for Island shopping. We have you covered at Alameda Faires. All your Tiki dreams can come true without an airline ticket. Just shop for décor, barware,  & retro fashions and you are there (with a coconut or two and a flower lei). The words "tiki culture" refer to the Polynesian style bars and tribal art that started to crop up in America in the mid 1930s. When American soldiers returned home after World War II, they brought back a major South Pacific influence along with them and helped to achieve a similar feeling... Continue reading
