November officially kicks off the holiday season and what better place to find those special pieces than to scour your one-stop-shopping spot at The Alameda Point Antiques Faire for your holiday decorating and dress up needs? I wrote my Vintage Style Solutions article for the Point Magazine which comes out today, November 7th and here are some of my pointers (pun intended) to get you started… for the full article and more, dowload The Point PDF at www.alamedapointantiquesfaire.com

It’s time to trip the lights fantastic. Don your gay apparel. Feathers, flowers, foils, bows, sequins, and shine! Ladies, do you feel me? It’s time for cocktail circuit attire. Who will wait for us under the mistletoe? I’m betting on a 4-inch platform heel and a sequin 60’s mini dress. ‘Tis the season to deck the halls. I have a feeling some creatures will be stirring and I’m not talking about mice! Dressing for evening is a whole new ball game this season. Luckily, The Point shopping offers new takes on soiree classics from head-to-toe sequins (give it a go) to the urban tuxedo jacket (sans pants) with a beaded vintage bag, extra long chain included.

Cheeky furs abound: If you missed the Alameda Point Vintage Fashion Faire, which I co-produce, don’t despair. You can find plenty at the Point. Go for vintage coats sporting leopard print to foxy furs. Topcoats with fur trim are all the rage. These toppers can’t be topped. While you’re at it, why not add a leopard print muff to keep your mitts warm?

Audrey Hepburn's Tiara

Get Swept Away: Tendrils tethered with tiaras are the perfect crowning achievement fit for a princess. Look for vintage jeweled tiaras or rhinestone combs for your up-dos. No one wore a tiara like Audrey Hepburn. You don’t have to be a bride or an actual princess to wear one. It just takes confidence and style. Be the belle of the ball.

All of the head adornments gracing the fashion runways this season could not top the simplicity and accessibility of the barrette. It’s a way to dress up your look in a snap (literally). Look for many vintage styles from France in Bakelite and other quality materials at the Point.

Birds Of A Feather: Don feathers in boas, ostrich on evening gowns, or marabou bed jackets. Flights of fancy can be found at the Point, taking your fashion to new heights. Wear these plumes with panache in a headpiece or a darkly glamorous cloche.

Festive Sequin Dressing: Usher in the season with the sparkle and shine of sequined dressing. The 80’s disco era is back as reflected on the runways of Marc Jacobs and Balmain. Head-to-toe sequins is a bold body-con statement and strictly ornamental. You can also opt for vintage sequin pants or a heavily beaded cardigan and mix them with your modern attire for memorable, festive glamour.

All out sequins may not be for the faint of heart perhaps, and you can tone it down a notch by simply wearing a vintage 50’s sequined clutch or beaded embellished bag with an extra long chain for hands-free fun to start your evening off right. Cocktails anyone?
